Saturday, May 16th was a busy day and a hot one temperature-wise at the ramp. That night we watched the final two episodes of the current season (three) of Shrinking and looking forward to the new season next year.
Sunday was another busy day, but of course that is typical of the weekends (and most likely the upcoming summer). As of this writing Memorial Day weekend is the next weekend and it will probably be brutal in terms of sheer numbers of people coming here.
That night I finished watching the second season of The Night Manager and Invincible (a really fun yet serious animated superhero show). Now it’s time to start the final season of The Boys.
“Goodbye” To The Late Show
Tuesday, May 19th started, for us because we watch the show when it is re-aired the next day on Paramount+, the final week of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. I’m feeling like there won’t be much reason to keep the Paramount+ streaming service now that they have canceled The Late Show and any new Star Trek shows (next year’s second season of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will be their last). We like The Daily Show, but not sure if we like it enough to pay for Paramount+ just for that one show.
On Wednesday the 20th we found out that our supervising ranger is leaving. She is the one who hired us and, you know, you always hate to lose “the one who brought ya”, as they say. We wish her the best going forward.
Friday night, May 22, 2026 we watched the last episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert that aired the previous night. It was a nice, funny finale made all the more special by having Sir Paul McCartney as a guest and musical performer. Can’t wait to see what Colbert does next.
Memorial Day Weekend 2026
The first day of Memorial Day Weekend 2026 began on Saturday, May 23rd. Rain in the area kept the crowds down to a manageable level.
Earlier in the week we had watched Sally Field on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert and she was promoting her new movie, Remarkably Bright Creatures which was on Netflix, so Saturday night we watched it and it was a wonderful movie. Recommend to all who want their heartstrings tugged but not broken.
What was particularly amusing to me is that, while this is a live-action movie, the voice of the octopus in the aquarium is that of Alfred Molina. The same Alfred Molina who portrayed Doctor Octopus in the Spider-Man movies. He MIGHT be getting typecast, lol.
It stormed almost all day Sunday and Sunday night, so it was another slow day. I posted my review of the book King Sorrow over on my writing website.
On Monday it didn’t rain until mid-morning and the lot was about half-full with folks trying to get some time on the water before the rains came back and they had to return to work the next day.
I wrote a blog post about how Schlitz beer would no longer be brewed and how it got me drunk before I was two-years old.
That night Cindy and I both finished our SF85’s which are background investigation forms for federal government positions (yes, even for volunteer positions) and submitted them. Old stuff for me but new for Cindy. Now we wait and see if we are criminals.
On Wednesday, May 27th I finished watching the series finale of The Boys and started on the new Spider-Noir series starring Nic Cage. It’s being streamed in both black & white and in color. I’m watching the b/w version first and, if I like the story, I’ll rewatch it in color to get the effects of both versions.
Mourning A Friend
Cindy and I were saddened on Thursday, May 28th to learn of the passing of one of her Disney colleagues and a friend of both of ours, Jann Childers.
Cindy had worked with her for many years and I had attended some of her concerts when I was writing the Man About Town blog many years ago, but it had been several years since either of us of us had seen her due to our traveling since retirement.
She will be missed. R.I.P. Jann.
Friday night I watched episode 5 of Spider-Noir and, after a busy day Saturday, I finished the series that night. I liked it enough that I’ll watch it in color for that experience.
Sunday finished out the month with more rainy weather, which had given Cindy a bad sinus headache.
And that wraps up our first two months in our volunteer position.
Thanks for following The Wandering Wetheringtons
