After a delicious breakfast at the Cracker Barrel in Gainesville, Florida we left around 11 am and drove a little over two hours to Wekiva Springs State Park. This state park is located north of Orlando and this was our fourth time staying at Wekiva Springs. Last year we didn’t think we’d be returning because they were scheduled to close the campground beginning in October while they upgraded their water lines. However, they delayed those repairs until the beginning of 2025 so we were able to make reservations for this 7-night stay.
Early Voting
Saturday morning, the 26th, we were up at 6 am and out the door at 7:15 am for a 45-minute drive to Orlando where we picked up Amber and Abby. Then we drove to our early voting polling place where we met Ann, Charlotte and Seth so we could vote together.
When we got to the polling place it was few minutes after their 8 am opening time and there were already 50-70 people in line. The line moved fairly fast and we were in to vote by 8:30 and out the door at 8:45 by the time each of us finished voting. I have to say the Orange County Elections Office seems to run a tight ship and I made sure to personally thank each of the three different poll workers I interacted with.
Then it was on to a nearby International House of Pancakes where we all enjoyed a nice breakfast and continued to catch up with each other in person. We stay in contact via phone calls, texts and FaceTime videos while we’re traveling across the country, but it’s especially nice to see each other in person.
After breakfast we dropped Amber and Abby back off at their house and picked up our years’ worth of mail, then drove to Ann’s so we could see Mikey who is still off his feet due to the meniscus tear in his right knee. We spent about 45 minutes there and we were happy to get caught up with him as well before we headed back to Nomad to relax the rest of the day.
Heels
I finished watching the second season of “Heels” on Netflix. It was a good, realistic look at the behind the scenes life of pro wrestling. Having followed it all my life and working as a performer myself for a while, I found the stories to be close to what it’s really like in the world of the squared circle. I knew there were only two seasons, but when I started watching it I held out hope they would pick up a third season with Amazon or Netflix (it originally aired on Starz). However, partway through the first season I learned the main star was picked up on another series, so it seems unlikely there will be any more seasons or episodes. Which was sad since they ended the second season on a bit of a cliff hanger. Such is life in the streaming world…or even the network TV world.
Sorting
The rest of the stay was doing our usual hiking through the park, but mostly consisted of sorting through tubs of clothes in the back of Voyager, dropping off some things to the storage room, donating some things to Goodwill, throwing out some things and rearranging the back of Voyager since we now have reduced the number of tubs back there. I also spent a couple of hours washing the outside of Nomad because it was filthy with road dirt, dust and smashed bugs on the front window and cap.
Cindy and I also watched “Trap” by M. Night Shyamalan on Max with mixed feelings. I recommend it if you like thrillers, but it’s not one of the best in that genre. Cindy was a bit disturbed by the main character. We usually completely enjoy Shyamalan’s movies, but this one just didn’t hit the target as well as most of his other movies.
Friday we headed out to our next stop, a little closer to Orlando, but not by much.
Thanks for following The Wandering Wetheringtons.
