Alum Creek State Park Campground in Delaware, Ohio Aug. 29 – Sept. 1, 2025

Friday, August 29th we left Punderson State Park Campground at 12:15 pm for a relatively short drive of 3 hours to Alum Creek State Park in Delaware, Ohio for another short stay of 3 nights and again, for really one reason only.

Alum Creek State Park Campground

Alum Creek State Park Campground is a large campground with 286 electric-only sites and 37 full hook-up sites. Our site was one of the electric-only sites which, like our lost stop, was a fine because we had enough water in our onboard tank for the 3 night stay. The site was asphalt and fairly level and was fine for a short stay.

There was also a nice trail nearby, the Deer Run Trail, which you can see on the map. Those are usually nice for hiking and exercising Bella.

After setting up we had some soup because Cindy’s stomach had been giving her trouble and we wanted to have something that would be easy on her. And we made it an early night to bed because we would have a busy day the next day.

We Find A Fungi

Saturday morning, after breakfast (Cindy’s stomach was feeling better) and showers, we discovered that our interior lights in the main slide-out were not working, and neither were the USB outlets. I checked the fuses and circuit breakers and found no problems there. That meant we had a problem with our 12-volt power to that part of the RV. And THAT meant I would have to crawl under the trailer to check the wiring looms for damage or a bad connection. Oh joy!

But not that morning, since I had just showered and this wasn’t a “must fix now” situation.

We took Bella for a slow hike on the Deer Run Trail and, thankfully, didn’t come across any wayward dental devices this time. Instead we had a nice, mile-long hike out and back and came across some funky looking mushrooms, which you can see in the photo album.

Visiting With Friends

That “one reason” I mentioned at the beginning of the post was to visit with our friends Kim and Spencer who live outside Columbus. We saw Kim in November of last year down in Florida, but it had been three years since we had seen Spencer.

So we met them at a nearby pizza restaurant for a late lunch/early dinner and enjoyed the time we got to spend catching up with them. Cindy has known Kim longer than we have been married, so they have a long legacy of friendship that stretches back 3 decades.

All too soon, it was time to go our separate ways. But it’s always good to touch base with friends as we journey across the country.

Alum State Park Beach

Sunday morning the interior lights in the main slide-out started working before I could even get underneath the slide-out to check on the wiring. I’ll take the reprieve, but there’s probably a loose ground wire somewhere that I’ll have to deal with eventually…

We took Bella on the Deer Run Trail again because it was the only trail near us, so we didn’t have much of a choice.

Then, on the recommendation of Kim and Spencer, we drove down to the Alum State Park Beach. We arrived around 11 am and, surprisingly for a three-day holiday weekend Sunday, it was not very crowded with people at all.

There was a guy wading about waist-deep in the lake with a metal detector, and a few people on the shore, but we were ALL outnumbered by the gulls and other fresh-water fowl that were gathered on the shore, in the water and in the air.

Back at Nomad, I spent the rest of the day working on the blog, photos and videos for our stop at the Monocle State Park in Brimley, Michigan back in the middle of August. Cindy spent most of it tatting.

We left the next morning for Kentucky.

Thanks for following The Wandering Wetheringtons.
