Bosch’s Big Bear RV Park in Hines, Oregon June 15-16, 2025

We left Three Island Crossing State Park in Glenns Ferry, Idaho on Sunday, June 15th and drove 5 hours to Bosch’s Big Bear RV Park in Hines, Oregon for another one-night stay.

That was also Father’s Day and I received calls from Ann, Mikey, Amber and Abby wishing me a Happy Father’s Day, as well as a text message from Charlotte, all of which warmed this old Grinch’s (I know, wrong holiday) small, cold heart.

We arrived at Bosch’s Big Bear RV Park around 1:45 pm. As you can see in the photos, they don’t have a sign with their name on it; just a generic banner. The “park” was a gravel lot with 10 unleveled spots that all had full hook-ups. Cindy had picked spot number 10 for us so we’d have at least one side with no neighbors because the sites are VERY close together.

Since it was a one-night stay, we didn’t hook up the water or sewer and didn’t unhitch from Voyager or extend the living room/dining slide-out. Makes it cozy to me and claustrophobic to Cindy and Bella, but we can all survive one night, lol.

Fun Story From This Trip

I was driving on I-84 in the right lane, as I usually do, when a car came speeding by us in the left lane. I assumed to pass me, but it turned out to be more than that. At exactly the same moment ANOTHER car came speeding by me on the right, driving on the shoulder.

I immediately slowed because:

  1. I wanted to stay out of the way of the idiot passing not only on my right but also on the shoulder
  2. On the shoulder was a large hunk of tire tread (most likely from a tractor-trailer rig) which the driver was certainly going to hit that I DID NOT want popping up and hitting us

As I was slowing, the car on the right did indeed hit the large piece of tire tread and almost lost control before (thankfully) straightening out.

Then both cars swerved into my lane in front of me, both accelerating as I was still braking, with the car on the left in front and the car on the right behind it. I was trying to put as much space between us and them because at this point I was convinced these two were road-raging and could possibly injure or kill themselves or somebody else.

I didn’t want it to be us.

The car from the right that was behind the car from the left accelerated even more and hit the rear of the car from the left, just as they were both fast approaching a pickup truck in our lane. Fortunately it was only forceful enough to “bump” the car in front and I think the pickup truck driver had seen in his rear view mirror what we were seeing through our windshield and had sped up even more to get away from the two cars.

The driver that hit the car immediately slowed after impact, then whipped over to the right again to take the off-ramp that they were passing. They almost went into the grass before regaining control in time to stay on the pavement, then made it to the exit, successfully completing the hit and run they had committed.

The first car took the very next off-ramp with its rear bumper/fender mashed in and hanging loosely close to the pavement.

We, and the other vehicles around us, remained safe. Thankfully.

But you just never know what kind of morons you’re going to encounter in life, so always stay aware.

That night, having enjoyed “You’ve Got Mail” a few nights earlier, we streamed “Sleepless in Seattle” before hitting the sack for another day of travel the next morning. Hopefully one that won’t include road-raging idiots.

Thanks for following The Wandering Wetheringtons.
